The bad news!

Today was a terrible day at Shark Park! The team was informed that a female and male tiger shark were caught in the shark nets this morning. The sharks were dead. Staff member Steve Benjamin went to investigate and took the ghastly pictures.

Steve then went to sea with the rest of the Shark Park team and came across another female tiger shark caught in the nets. Steve set about freeing the animal and resuscitating her. When she was strong enough he swam her down and released her. We hope she will survive.

This ridiculous situation and unnecessary slaughter of all sharks at an institutionalised level has to stop! These sharks pose no risk and yet Sharksboard via a permit exemption from Marine and Coastal Management continue to destroy these majestic animals in the Aliwal Shoal Marine Protected Area and the coast at large!

Can you guys report on any progress on your "Remove the Nets" initiative?

I was very saddened to read that both "Ella" and "Mathilde" have been killed by the nets - a film by Jerome was dedicated to them.
